Date: October 7, 2008

On October 19, 2008, Bel Canto Farms  in Dripping Springs, Texas plays host with The Austin Chamber Music Center and a group of German Exchange Students coming from Zwickau, Germany. The group consists of students and teachers (and two parents) from the Robert Schumann Conservatory. Zwickau was the birthplace of Schumann, hence the name.

The exchange program provides an opportunity for an international exchange of both professional and student musicians, but is focused primarily on helping the students of both countries to develop an appreciation of the universality of music and to provide an opportunity for a sharing of cultures.  Best friends have been made through the exchange, and this trip marks the sixth time that the two groups have made the trip one direction or the other.

The group that is coming to Austin from October 15th to the 26th is made up of fifteen students (ages 10 to 28), 8 teachers, and two parents.  The students play both jazz and classical Chamber music.  Their instruments include violin, viola, cello, piano, mandolin, guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, accordion, and drums.

The afternoon will be spent experiencing the Bel Canto’s lovely Hill Country setting and playing traditional music and Texas Swing with visiting guest musicians.
